The Buja Café story

Founded in 2013 by two young Burundians with a passion for coffee, Jules Katabizi and Cynthia Irambona, Buja Café was born out of a desire to share the love of quality coffee with the local community. The couple saw a lack of fine coffee options in Bujumbura and decided to create a space where people could enjoy exceptional coffee while connecting with others.

Coffee: at the heart of the experience

Buja Café stands out for its commitment to Burundian coffee. The country is renowned for its high-altitude Arabica beans, known for their lively acidity, smooth body and complex aromatic notes. Buja Café sources directly from local producers, guaranteeing the freshness and traceability of its beans.

A passion for coffee translates into the cup. Buja Café's talented baristas master the art of extraction, preparing each cup with care and precision. The menu features a range of classic coffee drinks and in-house creations, using seasonal ingredients.

Examples of beverages:

  • Filter coffee: A classic made with freshly ground beans and filtered water.
  • Cappuccino: A smooth espresso enhanced by frothy milk.
  • Latte: An espresso blended with hot milk and micro-foamed.
  • Mocha: A chocolate-flavoured latte.
  • Cold brew: Cold-brewed coffee for a smooth, refreshing drink.

More than just a coffee

In addition to its exceptional coffee, Buja Café also offers a tempting selection of pastries, sandwiches and salads, perfect to accompany your drink. Pastries are prepared on site with fresh, quality ingredients, while sandwiches and salads feature local and international flavors.

Examples of dishes:

  • Butter croissant: A French classic, crisp and melt-in-the-mouth.
  • Blueberry muffin: A soft, fragrant blueberry muffin.
  • Greek salad: A fresh, tasty salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese, olives and red onions.
  • Grilled chicken sandwich: A simple but delicious sandwich with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.
  • Cheese quiche: A tasty, comforting quiche.

Atmosphere and decor

Buja Café's ambience is just as appealing as its menu. The space is spread over two levels, with a modern, elegant interior on the first floor and a spacious outdoor terrace on the second floor. The decor is minimalist, with touches of bright color and elements reminiscent of Burundian culture.

The atmosphere is both lively and relaxed, making Buja Café an ideal place to relax, work or socialize. Whether you're looking for a comfortable place to read a book, a lively table to meet friends or a reliable Wi-Fi connection to work, Buja Café has something for everyone.

Buja Café is more than just a café; it's a community space that brings people together around the love of coffee.
