Located in Kigobe<\/strong>in the city of Bujumbura<\/strong>the AKIWACU Cultural Center<\/strong> is a place for learning, creating and transmitting Burundi's cultural knowledge. Its main aim is to preserving and promoting local traditions<\/strong>We've also adapted certain practices to contemporary realities, notably by involving younger generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udfad What's currently being done at AKIWACU Centre<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Here are the main ones regular activities and services<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Ongoing artistic training<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

  • Traditional and modern music courses<\/strong>with local instruments (ingoma, inanga...).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Traditional dance workshops (intambo z'ikirundi)<\/strong> accessible to all ages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Burundian theater<\/strong> Burundi tales and legends, often performed by young people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Plastic arts and painting<\/strong> for children and teenagers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    2. Cultural clubs and inclusion<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    • The center supports around 150 young people<\/strong>including 90 children with disabilities<\/strong>in art clubs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • These clubs are places where people can express themselves, share and develop their talents, particularly in urban areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      3. Cultural evenings like \"RINJORA<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      • Regular public events open to all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • It includes :\n

        • Traditional dances and songs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Presentation of oral stories and proverbs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Tasting of typical Burundi dishes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Intergenerational discussions on culture and social values.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          4. Integrated traditional restaurant<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

          • The center has a local kitchenette<\/strong> serving meals inspired by Burundian cuisine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • In particular, it employs women from vulnerable backgrounds<\/strong> (IDP camps, single mothers, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • The restaurant is also a training ground for young people in local gastronomy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            5. Cultural production and distribution<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            • AKIWACU produces cultural videos<\/strong>and filmed shows<\/strong>and hosts a YouTube channel to expand its audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • It cooperates with other African and international cultural structures to strengthen exchanges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
